DIY Hair Growth Oil
The fight for long, luscious, thick hair has been going on for centuries. There have been thousands of tonics, brews, chemical concoctions, or even “old wife’s tales” to “help” promote natural hair growth. A natural hair growth oil recipe is not new, but our understanding of why certain ingredients are chosen has increased greatly.
We now use this knowledge to come up with a natural hair growth oil recipe……
There are a lot of reasons why you may be looking for a natural hair growth oil:
- We may style and color our hair until it is broken, thin, and basically a damaged mess.
- Others may have a health issue that has caused their hair to thin or has caused significant hair loss, this includes medications that cause hair thinning or hair loss.
- Still others may have poor eating habits. If you are not healthy in body, you will not have healthy, beautiful hair.
- Lastly, we cannot forget that genetics play a huge role! If your mom has thin hair, there’s a good chance you may too. If male pattern baldness is in your family, you may genetically be turning off hair follicle growth and all external action will not help.
You will need to look into your causes and make any changes you can to improve your health and the health of your hair.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING:
- Eat healthy! This is huge! Consume a good amount of vegetables, proteins and fats so you can produce natural oil for your hair and keep your growth cycle going on schedule.
- Drink a lot of water.
- Massage your scalp gently to increase circulation.
- Exercise to increase blood flow.
Having oils penetrate the hair shaft is good. It helps to keep the hair shaft from being too porous and keep a balance between oil and water; strengthening the hair and preventing breakage. Oils that penetrate hair very well are oils like: coconut oil, palm kernel oil, castor oil, avocado oil, olive oil.
The goal with using essential oils is not to cure baldness, but to help stimulate growth of healthy hair follicles. You want the pores to stay lubricated, healthy, and unclogged. Increasing circulation and making sure they stay hydrated is very important. Certain essential oils are known to do these very things: cypress, peppermint, cedar wood, and rosemary essential oils.
NATURAL HAIR GROWTH OIL RECIPE:
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Fractionated Coconut Oil
- 1 Tbsp Avocado Oil
- ½ Tbsp Castor Oil
- 1 tsp Jojoba Oil
- 2 drops cypress essential oil
- 2 drops cedarwood essential oil or peppermint essential oil
- 2 drops rosemary essential oil
Instructions
- Combine all oils in a 2 oz glass dropper bottle
- SCALP APPLICATION: Apply a few drops to the scalp in various place beneath your hair, at the roots using a dropper and massage this into the scalp. Leave on for 20-30 minutes (or longer if you can) and then wash your hair normally. Be careful not to use too much, if you use natural shampoo as it will make it harder for you to get the oil out.
- HAIR PROTECTION: After washing, apply to damp hair on the ends by placing a few drops into your hand, rubbing your hands together, and then applying to the ends of your hair, working your way up as you go. You only need a few drops! A little goes a long way. You can then style your hair as you normally would.
- STYLING AND DEFRIZZING: Place a few drops onto your hands, rub together and then lightly comb your fingers through your hair, careful to not focus on just one area. After most of the oils is off your hands brush your hair or scrunch it up with your hands to create the beautiful curls. You will get a smooth and shiny finish! The key is to learn how much to use. Start with a tiny amount and build from there.
