DIY Bronzer

Is it just me or are you ready for a nice sun kissed glow? I am tired of my wintertime shade of skin. If you are looking for a way to get the springtime glow during the winter blues check this out!

These bronzing lotion sticks are the answer. These homemade lotion sticks provide extreme moisture for dry winter skin and add a beautiful sun-kissed glow without the harmful rays of the sun. Similar to our moisturizing lotion bars, these lotion sticks melt with the heat of your skin and are mess-free when stored in this convenient container.

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup beeswax
  • ¼ cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa butter
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E
  • 20 drops of your favorite essential oil
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for bronzer (you could also use 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder)

Note: This recipe makes approximately four ounces of lotion. I would suggest doubling the recipe because all your girlfriends are going to ask where you got your nice tan in the middle of winter.

Instructions

  1. Add beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil, and vitamin E too a glass jar and place in saucepan with one to one and a half inches of boiling water.
  2. Stir ingredients until combined (around 5–10 minutes).
  3. Once melted, remove from heat and let rest three minutes.
  4. Add essential oil and stir.
  5. For a bronzing effect, add one teaspoon of ground cinnamon or cocoa powder and stir until combined.
  6. Pour into container. Let cool one to two hours before use.

I found the perfect little containers on amazon but you can always use a small tin of some type. Just remember to always use gloves when applying and make sure to rub in and spread evenly.

For optimal results, it is recommended to let the bronzer set on your skin for about 4-8 hours after application before showering and at least 10-15 minutes before putting clothes on.

If you get streaks and want to remove, it is recommended to exfoliate with a sugar scrub. Lemons and limes also speeds up the removing process!!

Here is a great recipe for citrus exfoliating sugar scrub.

Citrus Exfoliating Sugar Scrub:

Ingredients:

  •  1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup liquid coconut oil
  •  Zest and juice from 1 lime
  • 15 drops lime essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Zest and juice the lime and add it to a bowl.
  2. Add sugar and coconut oil to a bowl, stir well.
  3. Add lime zest and lime essential oil. Stir well.
  4. Pour into an airtight container. If using mason jars, a canning funnel works great.

Happy Tanning! I can’t wait to see your glow!

Blessings!

XOXO-Alisha
