Back to School with Essential Oils

Even though summer isn’t over quite yet we need to start thinking about…back to school!

There are many different diffuser blends, sprays, and roller ball recipes you can use during the back to school season. Oils provide so many amazing benefits and support our kids during this exciting time.

Here are the top 4 back to school essential oils.

Lavender Essential Oil

  •  Lavender is widely useful for its calming and relaxing qualities.
  •  This essential oil helps to ease feelings of tension.
  •  Add a few drops of lavender to pillows, bedding or the bottoms of feet to prepare for a restful night’s sleep.
  •  Lavender evokes positive feelings of self-awareness.
  •  It is helpful to diffuse when trying to stay on task. Great for the homework time of the day
  •  Promotes feelings of clear breathing and open airways.

Here are a few great roller ball recipes and sprays that I like to keep on hand for the back to school blues and germs.

Rest Easy Roller Bottle

  •  4 drops Serenity
  •  4 drop citrus Bliss

School Time Ready Roller Bottle

  •  5 drop Vetiver
  •  5 drop wild orange

Extra Immune Support Roller Bottle

  •  2 drops Frankincense
  •  2 drops Lemon
  •  2 drops On Guard
  •  2 drops Oregano
  •  2 drops Tea Tree

Fill the rest of the bottle with fractionated coconut oil.

It is important to remember to dilute when using essential oils especially with kids.  Here are some dilution recommendations:

For a 10ml roller bottle:

  • Babies—1-2 drops
  • Toddlers—2-6 drops
  • Kids—6-10 drops
  • Teens—10-20 drops
  • Adults—20-30 drops

These are approximations and exacts are determined a lot on how sensitive the individual’s skin is and how much they weigh. Always start off with a lower dilution and then add more if needed.

Every parent cringes at the thought of getting the dreaded  “your kid has been exposed to lice” letter.  This lice away spray is an effective deterrent.

Lice Stay Away Spray:

  •  5 drops Tea Tree
  •  2 drops Peppermint
  •  2 drops Rosemary
  •  2 drops Cedarwood
  •  2 drops Lavender

Add oils to a glass spray bottle and top with filtered water. Shake and spray hair before going to school. Also great for backpacks, coats, or any fabric that goes to school.

PRO TIP:  Add a squirt of doTERRA conditioner to make it into a leave in condition. But don’t do this to the bottle you use for the backpacks and coats.
